DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POWER AND AUTHORITY:

Satan and his demons retained the Power after the fall, but lost their authority.

From the Oxford English Dictionary, Power may be defined in these 3 definitions below:

-Ability to do something.

-Influence or control

-Strength or Force.

Then, Authority, is defined as

-The Power to give orders and enforce obedience.

-A person/body with Official power

-An expert in a particular field.

After Satan and his demons fell, they lost their authority in the kingdom of God, but they retained the Power.

When the anointing of God comes, the residue or the after effect of God’s anointing is Power. So, in other words, the Power is a by-product of the anointing and it’s a gift that comes out of the Anointing. This is the reason, why some preachers you see, the anointing may have lifted, but the Power of miracles and healing are still effective, why? Because, the Power is a gift that comes with the anointing and the scriptures, make us understand that “Every good and perfect gift comes from above, from the Father of lights”. For example, King Saul of old, was still able to prophesy even after; the anointing has lifted, because the gift or residue of the anointing was still active in his life.

The Bible describes this of Lucifer:

Ezekiel 28:14-17 “ Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth, and I (GOD) have set thee: thou was upon the Holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou was created, till iniquity in thee”. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou had corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground. I will lay thee before Kings, that they may behold thee”.

So, you see Satan was also anointed of God but he lost that anointing (Authority) and what was left was the Power.

When God created Man, something spectacular occurred. Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us  (Trinity) make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have DOMINION over…all the EARTH”.

Let’s take a look at the word DOMINION for a moment. Dominion means ‘supreme power or control over a ruler’s territory’.

So, in other words, God gave man ‘supreme power or control over the earth, which God regards as Man’s territory’.

Moreover, when Satan fell, like I said earlier he lost his authority in heaven as he came to earth. When he came to earth, his power was not sufficient enough for him to have dominion over man, because man was already put in charge by God to have the territory of the earth. However, man (Adam) lost his authority because of sin and sold it out to the devil through disobedience. Hence, giving the Devil his authority. Therefore, the devil then had Power and authority on earth, and the earth became the devil’s territory.

In Matthew 4, Satan actually had the authority to give Jesus the kingdoms of the world because Adam had delivered it to him and then Jesus had not yet been glorified, since He had not died.

After the resurrection, Jesus regained authority over heaven and earth (He always had authority in heaven, even before his death and resurrection). Jesus then re-delegated this authority to us.

Matthew 28:18 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying ALL AUTHORITY IS GIVEN UNTO ME IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH”.

Also, even before Jesus died and was nailed to the cross, he had even more Power (Strength/Might) over the Devil in heaven and on earth. So, even if the Devil never lost his Power and came down to earth with it, Remember it was God, who created all things through His son Jesus (John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16-19), and in heaven Jesus still had more Power over the Devil, aside the authority he had over him. So, even if the devil before the death of Christ, had authority over the earth and had the Power he retained from heaven, Christ still had more Power over him. This evidence is seen in Luke 10:18-19 “ And Jesus said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightening fall from heaven. Behold I give you Power to tread upon serpents and scorpions (devils and demons), and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. You cannot give something you do not have. Jesus was able to give us Power because He had it without measure.

You see a kingdom is ruled by authority but Power conquers. That’s why Jesus gave us Power and authority from the preceding paragraphs.

Authority comes by relationship with God. The closer we are to God, the more authority we have. Authority is territorial. It exacts rulership over a kingdom. Glory to GOD! Christ has restored man’s dominion and authority back to him through life in Jesus.

So, it is simple! If you are in Christ, you have Power and authority over the Devil and his demons.

However, if you are of the world, you still live under Adam’s sin and has not accepted the gift of salvation of Christ, therefore you are still under the rulership or the authority of Satan.

Therefore, choose this day, what you will. There is LIFE (CHRIST) and DEATH (DEVIL). I advise you choose LIFE. Jesus says in John 14:6, “I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. Nobody comes to the Father except by me”.
